Travel and holiday claims cover a range of situations where travellers suffer loss or injury. Package holiday claims under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 hold tour operators liable for failures in any component of a package holiday (accommodation, transport, excursions).

Holiday illness claims arise when hotels or resorts fail to maintain proper hygiene standards, causing food poisoning, gastric illness, or other infections. Tour operators are liable under the Package Travel Regulations even if the illness was caused by a local hotel's negligence.

Flight delay and cancellation claims under retained EU Regulation 261/2004 provide fixed compensation of £220 to £520 depending on flight distance and delay duration. Airlines must also provide care and assistance during delays. The regulations apply to flights departing from the UK or arriving in the UK on a UK/EU carrier.

Injury claims while on holiday (e.g., swimming pool accidents, excursion injuries, transport accidents) can be pursued against tour operators or directly against responsible parties. Compensation for holiday illness typically ranges from £2,000 to £20,000. Serious injury claims can reach £50,000 to £500,000. Flight delay compensation is fixed by regulation. The limitation period is 3 years for personal injury and 6 years for breach of contract.
